What Requires Authorized Drop-Off.
Liquid paint—latex or oil-based—must go to an approved paint recycling program or a county HHW site. We’ll help you figure out the closest option and how to prep cans. If you prefer, we can handle the junk and supplies while you use the no-cost retail drop-off.

What PaintCare is
PaintCare is a nonprofit paint stewardship program created by paint manufacturers (through the American Coatings Association) to make it easy and legal to recycle leftover architectural paint in states that have passed paint stewardship laws. It sets up retail drop-off sites and manages the logistics; the program is funded by a small fee added to new paint sales in participating states.
What they accept (typical): house paint (latex & oil-based), primers, stains, sealers, and clear coatings like shellac/varnish—in original, labeled, non-leaking containers up to 5 gal. No aerosol spray paints, solvents, or industrial coatings. Many sites limit to ~5 gal per visit (some take more). Extras: They also offer Large Volume Pickup (generally ≥100 gal combined, counted by container size) for businesses, facilities, HOAs, and large jobs.
